10 March 2009New Skins By RustiSwordzRustiSwordz has sent me the three really nice skins below. Click the pic for a larger JPG view and the link for a zipped bitmap download. Check out more skins for all moths here! New Tips And LinkI got some really neat missile and quick kill tips from Jhodas.I gave them a whole page in the Weapons section here. I've also received all sorts of cool ideas from Libelnon. I'll be adding more from him in the future, but for now I'm adding his method of dealing with the rivals out to kill you when you play Hardwar as The Dealer. Here's the page. I've also added another link. It's to Shinobi's Place where there's a lot of modding for several games including Hardwar. I've also added a great Vista installation and compatibility tip from Andrew P on the Installaton Page. New Hawk SkinAs25 sent me this Hawk skin called "BlackHawk". Download the zipped bitmap here. Check out other Hawk skins here. Ten Years AgoIt was around ten years ago that I began playing Hardwar. I'd found the demo at the now defunct SoftSeek site. I played that demo to death. It was the only good flight model I could get to run on my old PC. I was hooked immediately. I can still vividly remember being in the seat of a Silver-Y preparing to launch from Alpha Trading Post in the demo. The original game had the hangar screen as a small screen inset with a background and the hangar buttons on the left. I was hoping that the game wasn't entirely played on such a small screen. Then the hangar doors opened and I entered a world that would consume me for the next decade. In mid-November of 1998, I found a rare copy of the game's CD's at a Babbage's software store. I almost cried. I'd been looking everywhere. I got the game and a new joystick and wasn't seen through most of the holidays. The next year I started this site. New Board For Modder'sNocturne is hosting a suddenlaunch board for Hardwar programmers. Give it a visit here New ISO Download SiteDesyphix is currently hosting a RAR file with both Hardwar CD ISOs. Here's a link to his welcom page. He's also provided a link for a direct download. You can keep up with my Hardwar ISOs page for the latest available ISOs. If you know of or are hosting the ISOs, please email me. OUCH's Latest EditorI've uploaded the latest version of OUCH's very neat Hardwar patcher/editor. It covers Engines, Cells, and Pods with more to come. Fly a Silver-Y over 500mph. Hold near infinite cargo in a smallest pod. The interface is mostly self explanatory and in English. Download here Update NoteI'm going to be updating the site as much as needed through the end of the year. I know that many of you have sent me items like skins and profiles that I haven't put up yet. More than likely they are lost. If you have sent me something to post and I've not got it up yet, please email me at captain_zedo@hotmail.com and give me a reminder. Bulletin Board NoteI've been made aware of some confusion concerning the site's bulletin board. The board's main page shows no signs of activity and has led some to believe that the board is down. This isn't so. You just have to log in to see the activity. This is confusing but there's noting I can do about it. The main page belongs to Suddenlaunch. Just remember not to panic and just log in to see what's happening. If you know of any other active Hardwar Boards, please email me so I can include them in my links and board lists. Two Great New SitesI can't believe our luck at the debut of two new Hardwar sites. The first belongs to one of Software Refinery's best and has all sorts of modding and programming data concerning the game. A must for Hardwar hackers. Here's the link: http://ciarang.com/hardwar/hwtech. The second site has downloadable full version of Hardwar!! It's a single file containing both disk ISOs. Here's the link:www.hardwar.ath.cx. As always, please write me with any new sites you come across or create. UIM 6 Link RepairedI've repaired the permanent link to Ian Martin's UIM 6 patch on the Download page. You can also start downloading the HardwarUIM6.exe file by clicking here. Hardwar DownloadI've edited the download links on the site. They now point to the modified Underdog's game. I'm searching for a host to hold the CD ISOs. If you can offer the space and bandwidth for two ~400MB files, email me MINOR UPDATESI've added a new profile. If you don't see your profile, or you need it edited, email me. MINOR UPDATESI've added a new profile. If you don't see your profile, or you need it edited, email me. I'm also making a variety of minor corrections that are long overdue. Getting every accurate. My bigger projects that should be up soon are a new installation and configuration manual that cover Windows versions through Vista, and some new flight/afterburner tips. I've also discovered some new things about the UIM6 economy. MINOR UPDATESI've added a new profile. If you don't see your profile, or you need it edited, email me. ISO's NOW AVAILABLEI've updated the links to the Hardwar ISOs. Blood Bath is still hosting the links and we all owe him our thanks. Here's the page with the download links. The files are .iso files. I apologize to those of you who were frustrated by the delay in my updates. I'm currently updating the site daily, so check in from time to time. I've got some profiles to add and some tips on advanced use of the Afterburner. I'm also revamping my installation guide specifically for Windows XP and Vista problems. Links UpdatedI've pared out the bad links and there were a lot of them. Sad really. It took me back to 2001 - 2002 when Hardwar sites were really taking off. Anway, quality survived. Here's the updated list. If you know of any sites I need to list, please email me at captain_zedo@hotmail.com
Exotic Moths UpdateI've been experimenting with the ultimate "no-fail", idiot-proof method of getting Downtown Moths to reliably produce Police L2000s, Death Head's, and Swallows. And, the news is good. Only 3 trade runs. The quantity of trade items is far lower. The process if fast. So get started! The new page is here! Bulletin Board ImprovementsI've just gotten back from the bulletin board and have turned off guest posting. I'm sorry it has caused some of you so much grief. I hate having to register to view every page on the web, but the bot situation had gotten out of hand. It's a shame that business just can't leave well enough alone. It's in that vein that I'm cleaning up the board and will confront (read ping-0-death) some of the offenders. Please write me at captain_zedo@hotmail.com if you notice any more board spam. Note that I'm only cleaning up the more recent posts, so there will be some spam in the older messages. Hardwar CDs Available For SaleI was sent this link selling Hardwar CDs: I'm not sure how long the sale will last, so get 'em quick. The box displayed really takes me back. That's the box my first version came in. I looked for Hardwar for months. Server ImprovementsFor the past several months, UKWebGuy.com has hosted the site and done a bang up job of it. I can't thank the staff enough for the fast, reliable service. Thanks. Hardwar Loader - ChrisChris has finished his first Hardwar loader. It will help you load different versions of Hardwar on the same machine. The Hardwar Loader is available here. Please address questions to Chris on the Bulletin Board. Kronos' Site RelistedKronos is an old time loyal and greedy pilot that has long maintained a wonderful Hardwar site. You can view it here. I had his site listed some time back and I don't know what happened to the link. But, all is well now and I've permanently included him on the General Links page. Fifth UIM patch releasedIan Martin has released the fifth upgrade to his UIM series of Hardwar patches. Get your copy here. This is an executable file (.exe). The improvements in this patch and the patch's history are contained in this zipped text file (only 17KB). We all owe a great deal of thanks to Ian Martin for his great work on the original game as well as his continued interest more than six years later. Currently, he is too busy to visit the bulletin board daily and has asked that his section, "Ask Ian Martin", be taken down. I admire his commitment to keep the board current or kill it. I've deleted that board, but you can still ask questions of Ian Martin in the other sections of the board. Just be patient in your expectations for a response. Hardwar Booklet - EamoeWhen Eamoe approached me with the idea of a Hardwar booklet that contained some real data about the game, I thought, "It's about time." Now you can have a paper booklet to refer to while you fly so you don't have to keep stopping gameplay and looking up stuff. You can order your copy of the booklet here (opens in a new window). Thanks, Eamoe for making this great idea come alive. New Neo Skin - PlagueAbove is an action shot of Plague's new Neo-Tiger skin - Nova Neo-Tiger. He's got a real flare. Download the zipped bitmap for use in the game here. Preview the skin in a new window here.
IceBreaker Skin For Moon Moth - Plague![]() Above is an in-game screenshot of Plague's new skin in action. I like it's nearly glowing blue. Very sharp looking skin. I'll have Plague's Neo-Tiger skin up right after the new year. Preview Skin >>>Download Zipped Bitmap of IceBreaker >>>Pix From Hammer's Game - AIThese pix just in from AI. He's been playing in Hammer's long term game and took several screenshots. The one above is only a small sample. Click here to see the rest of the pix. All are large enough to be good wallpapers. Old Hardwar Reviews - Ian MartinIan Martin sent me some images of the "Edge" website's old Hardwar Review. Click the links below to see the readable images of this two page review (with pix). Stuck Monorail - jnsgjnsg sent me the above pic. Click the small pic above to see the full-sized image in a separate window. Here's jnsg's description of what's happening: "I happened across this interesting situation and thought you might like the screenshot for your site. What apparently happened was, the cargo (little squarish thing to the left of my Silver-Y) got dropped right under the Monorail track. The first scavenger (to the top right of my moth) sent out his done just as the Monorail car was whizzing by. The drone (above cargo, on front of Monorail car) got stuck on the car and vice versa, and the whole scene was just sitting there, in a state of stasis. The second scavenger (just above first one, cut off at the top) was trying to get the cargo, but the first one's drone had already locked on, so no one could get it! Right after this screenshot was taken, I swiftly killed the scavenger and grabbed the cargo." -jnsg Hardwar2 Bulletin BoardI just got a message giving me the URL to the bulletin board run by Max concerning his progress toward a Hardwar2. Max certainly knows his stuff about the internal code of Hardwar. It's even rumored he's an old SR guy. You can visit his bulletin board here. HardwarE - Zero CoolThe best news I've had about the game since the start of the year is about all of the excellent patching going on over at hardwar.info. Zero Cool has been keeping me up to speed and has sent me the following concerning the HardwarE patch/version. To start out with you need to go to hardwar.info's patch index. He's got all sorts of useful things including the two files needed for HardwarE. The features of the patch are listed here. Thanks again, Zero Cool, for keeping updated on this. XP Installation Tip - Zero-SaberThis tip from Zero-Saber is almost too easy. I've tried it and it works. The following is an easy installation workaround for Windows XP that was sent to me by Zero-Saber: I downloaded and installed the 2.04 patch. when ever that patch is installed and I put the disk in it asks if I want to downgrade to the old version. I say yes and then it installs. I've got more tips on my Installation Page. Alien Attack - HammerThe above is an interesting shot that Hammer sent me. It shows the end of a dogfight with an Alien Moth. The Alien won. Click the pic above for a full-sized view in a new window. New Site - Azaron FlareIt never ceases to amaze me how the Hardwar community keeps increasing even though the game was released in 1998. A new Hardwar site's getting started by Azaron Flare. You can visit it here! Star Trek Skins - MikeAbove and below are some Silver-Y skins sent to me by Mike. The one on top follows a basic scheme for a Star Trek like Moth. The one on the bottom includes an ID number. Very Trekky. Click the images to get a bigger view in a new window. Click the red link below the images to download the zipped bitmap for use in the game. You can find more skins for every Moth here. New Dirty TricksHardwar has to be the most "replayable" game ever programmed. I've played it regularly over 5 years and still find out new things about the game. I've developed a lot of really good strategies and tactics for dogfighting, scavenging, and everything piracy. My newest technique is one I've used for some time, but never posted. You can read about it here. If you'd like to read all of my dirty tricks start here. I plan to make these pages an entire section over the summer. |
